Water Quality

Concerns about water quality and regulations imposed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have generated greater interest in measurement of water quality. It is a very complex subject, in part because there are so many variables: the local geology and ecosystem; human uses such a sewage dispersion, industrial pollution, and overall use of water.

Most measurements such as conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, and turbidity can be made on-site in direct contact with the water source in question. More complex measurements that must be made in a lab setting require a water sample to be collected, preserved, and analyzed at another location.

Real-time water quality stations equipped with a variety of specialized sensors offer unattended monitoring. Sensor data are collected and managed in Contrail® and alert notifications can apply for exceeded user-defined thresholds for pH, water temperature, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and nitrates, and more.
